Cisco brings Splunk AI on premises and starts metering AI tokens

At .conf26, Cisco launched AI POD for Splunk (on-prem and air-gapped), expanded Agent Observability with token-cost tracking, and added a Network Intelligence App that puts Cisco network topology inside Splunk. What it means: regulated and public-sector teams can now run AI-assisted SOC and NOC work without sending data to the cloud. If you run AppDynamics, plan your roadmap around Splunk. FY2027 Category Two requests are already posting in Texas

The first Texas FY2027 equipment request went up in August, well ahead of the winter filing window. What it means: districts planning a network refresh on their five-year budget ($201.57 per student, $30,175 floor) should size needs now, while vendors are available and pricing is unhurried.

Funding

North Texas voters approve billions in school and city bonds

Dallas ISD's $6.2B bond and Fort Worth's $845M bond both passed; Arlington ISD approved its technology proposition, and Irving ISD's $40M technology proposition is on the Nov 3 ballot. What it means: new schools, fire stations and a 911 center are an opening to build infrastructure that's monitored from the first day.

ServiceNow

ITOM licensing reorganized into two tiers

Reported as two tiers: ITOM Advanced for visibility (Discovery, Service Mapping) and ITOM Prime, which adds Event Management, Metric Intelligence and Health Log Analytics. What it means: confirm your tier with your account team before designing event correlation; it decides where correlation can run.

AWS makes its DevOps Agent generally available

The agent starts investigating on its own when an alarm or ticket fires, across AWS, Azure and on-premises systems, and works with tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, Splunk, ServiceNow and PagerDuty. What it means: AI incident investigation is now a standard cloud service. Pilot it in recommend-only mode, and fix topology and CMDB data first, because the agent is only as good as the context it reads. Source: AWS

Security

Public TLS certificates now max out at 200 days

Under CA/Browser Forum Ballot SC-081v3, the limit drops to 100 days on Mar 15, 2027 and 47 days in 2029. What it means: any certificate still renewed by hand is an outage waiting to happen. Discovery and automation should start this school year.

Google completes its $32 billion Wiz acquisition

Wiz keeps its brand and continues to support AWS, Azure and Oracle Cloud alongside Google Cloud. What it means: if Wiz secures your cloud estate, ask for multicloud support commitments in writing at your next renewal. Source: Cybersecurity Dive

Palo Alto Networks completes its CyberArk acquisition

CyberArk, which bought Venafi in 2024, is now part of Palo Alto Networks. What it means: if you run Venafi for certificates or CyberArk for privileged access, expect roadmap and licensing changes; review renewal terms before signing multi-year deals.

Palo Alto Networks completes its Chronosphere acquisition

The roughly $3.0 billion deal puts a cloud-native observability platform inside a security company, with plans to connect it to Palo Alto's Cortex AgentiX agents. What it means: observability and security data are converging on shared platforms. If you run Chronosphere, review roadmap and renewal terms; if you're choosing a platform, design the data pipeline so either team can use it. Source: Palo Alto Networks
